“The Ski Town with a Real Past”

One of the architectural challenges of the new Breckenridge Welcome Center was to rework an existing building so it would reflect the town’s historical character. In the process, a “hidden surprise” was found buried within the walls of the building – an 1880s cabin! This cabin became the historical centerpiece for the Welcome Center and features exhibits about the booms and busts of Breckenridge, as well as audio with some of the town’s more colorful characters.

In addition to the architectural design, The Roybal Corporation designed and fabricated all of the exhibits for the Welcome Center. Visitor experiences include: a “mine-shaft” elevator, children’s loft with interactives, a dredge boat diorama, an “underground mine” theatre, as well as tribute to the environmental efforts the Town of Breckinridge has undertaken in the past twenty years to return the surrounding habitat to “better than they found it.”
