UNITED STATES MINT DIE SHOP ADDITION

Client:
US Department of Treasury

Location:
Denver, CO

Project Status:
Completed

Size:
35,000 sf

Program:
Architectural Programing and Design

The Roybal Corporation Architects designed a 35,000 sf addition to the United States Mint to provide new die shop operations at the Denver Mint.

The new facility was designed as a high security facility, having no direct access to the exterior of the building. The new die shop contains a full production facility for the fabrication and manufacturing of coin production dies. The design utilized complementary materials and scale to bring together disparate building designs and eras. The precast panel exterior facade reflects historical forms and elements contained on the 1904 building.

The character of the Die Shop Addition was carefully coordinated with State and Historical Societies including the Denver Landmark Commission. The review committee was pleased with the design, complimenting the use of color, materials and design elements to be sympathetic with the adjacent historical structures.
